First match Sunday 10th August Somerset (frogs)  v Wiltshire. Report by Amelia

First match today and it was against the mighty reds that are Wiltshire. The rain held off but 40mph winds made conditions tough for our girls.  Jess  and Frankie  led the team out in the foursomes. The match was up and down from the start but, despite batting well, they lost on the 16th hole. Our fantastic captain Abby Gray led out the singles. This match was up and down constantly and the level of golf played was amazing. Abby couldn’t grind out the win, however, she handled herself brilliantly and certainly helped the team's spirits. Next up was one of our rookies, Ellen. She was playing a member of the Welsh squad and unfortunately lost in the latter half of the back nine. Kim started quickly from the off and finished off her match 3&2. She played brilliantly throughout and thoroughly deserved the match. Our final match of the day was Charlotte. Although she wasn’t happy with her game, she handled herself well throughout and finished her battle on the back nine.

The team were amazing today. each and everyone of them supported each other and had fun. We turn our attention to Devon and Dorset tomorrow. Thank you to everyone for supporting today and looking forward to the Presidents' Dinner tonight! #gofrogs

Day2 v Dorset

The frogs take on defending champions and home team Dorset. Captain Abby and Kim as our foursomes pairing played well.  They had a tough match and ground out a half. Well done guys! Jess led out our singles and we were never in doubt with Jess’ match and e golfshe came in with a score of 3&2. Ellen followed up and played incredible golf to secure a 6&5 win for the team!! The golf was amazing to watch and and everyone is so happy for her. Next up were the two county rookies. Leah from Burnham & Berrow came up against a tough opponent and lost her battle on the 16th hole. Last but not least was Jo who was the biggest surprise of the day. Her game was methodical and she played so well against an extremely tough opponent. She came through and won 2 up giving us the match and her first win as a county player. Well done Jo! Somerset ultimately won 3 1/2- 1 1/2 against the defending champions and this put us in a great position for the afternoon.

Day 2 v Devon. A new partnership  for the foursomes of Charlotte and Ellen. Despite being 2 down walking onto 17, they halved their match and this showed their spirit and determination. Captain Abby was next and her attitude throughout the match was outstanding but  this wasn’t enough to win her the match and she lost on the 14th. Jess came through again for the team this afternoon with a 5&3 win. Jess is certainly one to watch out for in the coming years. Frankie was next and did that girl fight!  Being 2 down to 1 up to all square up the last hole. It was gutting to see her lose on the last but the fight and grit shown was amazing. Finally was K who has played amazingly well and once again delivered a great result for the team! We ultimately halved the match with Devon. and are now on 1.5 points for the tournaments with everything to play tomorrow against Gloucestershire and Cornwall. #gofrogs=

Match 5  Cornwall v Somerset

After our amazing win over Gloucestershire, we had to re think our strategy as Cornwall had higher handicaps and we wanted to make sure those that hadn’t played in the morning, played in the afternoon.  The first thing our winning foursomes pairing of Abby and Jo said as they came off the course was “ can we have ago again”  which of course was a huge positive in order  to lead the team off.

Plotting their way around the course, they  brought in another fabulous win 6/5, a foursomes pairing for next year.

Jess Haines led out the singles and had an amazing tussle against Kira Barns, winning 2/1.    Next Frankie who put up a great fight against Maisie Drewett, eventually losing 3/2. Charlotte was up against a very steady Lizzie Nile and lost 8/7. Then, Leah who led from the start. She looked positive and had remembered every thing we had discussed in our team discussions re lagging putts and course management in order to make the next shot easier.Leah beat Maddie Watson 3/1.

Somerset won 3 /2. Another great win.
