Well done to all who played today. Thanks must go to Emma (Club Secretary) and Saybria Sims (Lady Captain) and her team of helpers. Also of course the caterers and green-keeping staff, for ensuring a successful and enjoyable day.

SLPC v Men’s Past Captains @ Wells GC
21st August 2017
Result: The men won by 280 points to 265 points
On arrival, we received a very warm welcome from the Captain, George Davis and the rest of the men. With coffee, we had lovely sandwiches and hot chips. Then for the off…..
The format – for the first time, we played 4BBB stableford off full handicap instead of match play. To quote the BBC weather site, the day was fine, warm and rather humid with plenty of sunny spells! The course was well presented and played long due to the previous heavy rain. My understanding is that every match was played in great spirit and lots of fun was had by all. 15 points difference over 8 matches shows how close the matches were. The day ended with a very pleasant meal and lots of banter.
My thanks must go to George Davis who organised everything to perfection and of course to Wells GC greens, bar and catering staff. Last but not least, to the ladies team who played so well – thank you.
Somerset vs Wiltshire @ Rushmore GC on Thursday 3rd August
Result: Somerset lost 2/6
Rushmore GC was a challenging course and it was exciting to play a course one had not played before. However it was a long journey and those who put their names down to play are to be praised for their loyalty and stamina - especially those ladies who stepped in at the last minute.
The organisation went smoothly and the Captain of Wiltshire, Maggie Morgan and her Vice Captain, Jan Lucas were friendly and accommodating. The Wiltshire team were also very friendly and the camaraderie and fun during the meal was great. The caterers were very good.
The matches were very close with losses on the 18th hole.

Our grateful thanks must go Wells Golf Club. To Eira Powell in the Office, the Lady Captain, Tina Davies and Vice Captain, Cath Levell and the Club Captain as Starter, Stuart Mann. A wonderful day had by all.
Somerset vs Hampshire @ Farrington Park GC on Thursday 6th July
Result: Somerset won 5/3
Everyone enjoyed the game despite the heat although some were flagging towards the end.
Hants fielded 12 silver and 4 bronze players so even our lowest handicappers received shots. It’s not what they usually do – just how it worked out on the day.
We had two holes-in-one. Pauline Parnall (Somerset) and Tonny Maxwell (Hants). Both were on the 10th but they weren’t playing together. We were all treated to a nice Pimms at the meal. A photo of the two ladies is attached.
Kathy, the Hants captain is a member at Meon Valley and others came from even further afield – one from the Isle of Wight so I don’t know which ferry she managed to get back – she might just have made the 10 p.m.
Farrington were very helpful and the food was good.
Somerset vs Devon @ Weston-super-Mare on Thursday 29th June
Result: Devon won 6/2
The Club were extremely helpful before the event and on the day. Jayne in the office did a brilliant job.
On the day, one of the Devon members did not turn up. Weston did not charge us for the meal for that individual. Wendy Homer was very helpful trying to find another player to help Devon out. Unfortunately no one was available at that short notice.
The food was excellent!
