A MESSAGE FROM AMANDA
I do hope as many of you will play in the County Championships now that the qualifying round is only over 18 holes, it would be lovely to see some new faces. One of the reasons for changing to 18 holes qualifying is that the Executive Committee felt that County competitions should be for everyone, not just the elite or those who could play 36 holes. Therefore this format will be tried for one year and then reviewed. Even Ewan Murray from Sky Sports said at the Volvo World Match Play Championships “I am not a great fan of 36 holes, I think the game of golf is played over 18 holes” – so I am sure he would agree with our decision.
The other changes to the Championships is that the Margaret Webber Trophy will now be given to the best nett score for anyone with a handicap of 14 – 28 returned in the qualifying round, it will not be a stand alone competition. Also, there will be 16 qualifiers for the Phillips Trophy allowing us to have 2 finals on Sunday afternoon, the Championship and the Phillips Trophy . A new look all-round.
