Somerset Team 2017

SW JUNIORS INTERCOUNTIES TEAM CH'SHIPS.

What a wonderful three days golf was had at Exter Golf & Country Club for the SW Girls Inter-Counties 2017.  Somerset started well on Sunday afternoon with a win against Wiltshire 4 points to 2 with wins for Bella, Jess, Carys and Kim with Amelia and Abby just missing out.

Monday morning saw us up against a strong Devon side on home ground and the score was reversed with wins from Bella and Patience but despite fighting hard Jess, Davina, Abby and Kim were unable to overcome the opposition.

Monday afternoon it was our turn to take on Cornwall with wins from Bella and Jess and two halved matches from Patience and Kim we managed an honourable halved match.

Final day Tuesday morning and the sun was still shining although we had been warned that a storm could come in the afternoon!

This mornings match was against Dorset and once again we fought very hard with wins from Bella and two halved matches from Abby and Kim but Dorset narrowly won against Jess, Davina and Patience and so Dorset won 4/2.

Our last match saw us up against the tournament favourites Gloucestershire who fielded their best team possible and my girls were up for the fight and did they fight. Through hole 10 we were up in the match and were worrying our opposition, things began to slide a little over the back few holes but Bella won  2 & 1, Amelia halved, Davina lost on the 18th, Patience and Abby lost 2 & 1 and Kim lost 3 & 2. The match result of 4.5 to 1.5 does not really reflect the superb effort the team put in to this difficult match.

The team did Somerset very proud, they put every effort possible into all the matches showing great strength of character, superb team spirit and sportsmanship throughout.  They were fun to be around.  Thank you girls you were great.

I would like to thank Ellie, our President, Cathy, County Captain, Saybria and Sally for their support and assistance during the tournament and of course all the parents and supporters who came to cheer on Somerset.  We had a great time and hope you all enjoyed the superb golf being played by the south west's best junior girls.   Beryl
